Summary from Goodreads:
In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl’s spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?
Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother’s web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner.
As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare’s heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back.
When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down
So i had low low very low expectations for this book, i was not a huge fan of Glass Sword, but this book blew my expectations out of the water. i was mind blown.
The story starts with Mare as Maven’s Prisoner, we get to the whole complicated and Mavens twisted psychotic mind. It extremely well done, its really well written and seemed so believable on so many levels. And the way e find out how Maven became so psychotic and messed, his mom literally was so evil. She molded him so much even he’s not sure who he is anymore. The only thing he’s sure about is that his obsession over with Mare. You might not like Maven but you feel pity for him and feel so much sympathy. And so does Mare, she feels for him but she still wants to kill him.
He is a monster still, a monster always. And yet I can’t stop myself from listening. Because I could be a monster too. If given the wrong chance. If someone broke me, like he is broken.
Monsters are made. So was Maven. Who knows who he was supposed to be.
Maven is always held accountable for the horrible things he does, but its just complicated mess or so.
Mare’s story as she’s dealing with grief, being lonely and PTSD its made to be really realistic which honestly scared me.She honestly such a huge character ARC and has such development that honestly surprised me so much. She fights back and doesn’t lose hope even though shes going through so much a lot than most people do.
and Cal, OMG OMG OMG YOU STUPID LITTLE**********************************. I LOVED YOU, YOU BETRAYED ME YOU*******. I have some strong feelings for Cal after the ending of Kings Cage. Although he’s still one of my book boyfriends lets just say hes not the brightest cookie out there.
The romance between Mare and Cal honestly melted my heart in so may ways, like i was swooning over Cal………Up to the ending. Their mutual support on one another, ahh *sigh* my heart.
I took off half a star because I wasn’t a huge fan of Cameron’ s character lets just say she was a bit annoying.
I also really loved the character of Evangeline she was absolutely amazing, and her relationship is so goooood.
Stuff I loved
- EPIC BATTLE SCENES
- PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING
So i think the pacing might be a bit slow for some people but I loved it, it was just perfect for the story.
AND THE ENDING OMGGGG….
“Caz, Brecker, with us!”
OVERALL I GAVE IT A 4.5 OUT OF 5 STARS
